Compelling Stories: Janet

Hey guys it's Alicia and this compelling story is about a single mother of two, who came from abroad to flourish in life despite her hardships. Her name is Janet and as you listen to her story all you can say is, "What an inspiration!"

I did my project as a video and chose to interview Janet because she's a living inspiration and motivation for me to never give up on what I want to do in life. Her story is one that everyone should hear especially students so everyone can understand that working hard and believing in yourself pays off in the most incredible way. You can find the video on my webspace.

This story comes across as heartfelt, simple, and true, even though your subject is reading from cards, giving the overall interview a slightly stilted tone.

The human interest of the story helps it to rise above any nervousness on the part of the interviewee and as the interviewer, your voice and questions are confident.

This is a universal narrative of triumph over adversity, and success in a new country, as well as one of family love, and your mother's caring, responsible nature shines out loud and clear.

This interview is very professionally conducted, and you have done a good job of capturing the audio at a reasonable quality, and editing it into a straightforward interview form.

At first I wasn't sure about the quality of the filming, but after you presented to the class about how you had to go about it - I'm very impressed! She doesn't look too stoney, considering she's reading from cue cards, and the story is well-rendered to fit the short time constraints and not jerky at all. Good job!
