The virtual community I present to you is a deviation from your standard forum-based community. It's kind of a pet project for a family member. The goal originally was to create an e-zine reflecting interracial/mixed/etc.. or individuals or people who are affected including new couples, or people who like to contribute to the idea. The second emphasis was to establish a new cultural definition of 'mixed'.
The project was to help those who do not have a percieved societal notion of background or culture to connect to others who have the same disconnection to the proper notion to the societal definition.
Cheers,
Andrew

I thought the in-class discussion about this project was fantastic last week. Our guest lecturer Ian Murray really had a lot of insights to offer that I think you should follow up on. This is the kind of site that could attract a world-wide following very quickly, as a lot of people self-identify in terms of mixed race. Also the catagory of mixed race has caused a lot of pain and exclusion, a lot of pressure and probably often at ages when people are young and growing into a sense of self. Given Ian's proposal that you should promote the site, how does one go about doing so? It would be really interesting to approach Ian for insights on this. An important point he made is to always seek out the top level of artists and web producers to ask this kind of question of. He seemed very confident that you would get positive feedback and input. Any well-known individuals you respect who you could approach to mentor your idea? This might be an interesting assignment for your sister as well.
In terms of the visualization and layout of the site as presented, I think the catagories you've created could use some further work and thinking through, as discussed in class. Really engaging concept!
